It's phishing season again, folks. Not the fun kind, the scammer kind. We've had a report of a customer receiving a call from "OG&E" saying that they owed money. There have been other unrelated reports of people getting calls from "Stillwater Medical" about money owed. Please be on guard for situations like this. If you have any doubts at all, question the caller or hang up and directly contact the company they're supposedly representing to verify. Remember that no legitimate company will ever asking you to pay for things using gift cards. Be aware, be cautious, and trust your instincts. If it sounds like a scam and it feels like a scam, it's probably a scam.
We're going to have to discontinue Perry Recycles! for the foreseeable future. We genuinely hate having to do this because the citizens of Perry have really stepped up and shown their commitment to recycling in a big way! Unfortunately, we're just not able to get anyone to pick up the bulk products like they're supposed to.
Sadly, we're not alone in this, either. Other small communities, like Yale, have had to discontinue their recycling efforts for the exact same reason. The facility we use to house recycling is as full as we're comfortable with, and it's becoming both a fire risk and an infestation risk.
We do genuinely hope to bring it back at some point in the future, hopefully in the not-so-distant future, because of the support and participation that citizens have demonstrated. For now, though, the program will be on indefinite suspension.
Thank you to the dedicated volunteers who helped make this program such a success. Thank you to the citizens who participated in force and grew this program as big as it is. We will definitely let you know if or when Perry Recycles! returns!

Electric Department is aware of an outage in the northern side of town. They are trying to determine the cause and will have power restored as soon as possible.

It's time again for the annual Citywide Cleanup day! This year, the event will take place on Saturday, April 13th from 8am to 12pm down at the street department. This is a great opportunity to rid yourself of those larger items that aren't suitable for dropping off at the curb! If you are unable to haul items yourself, call 336-4241 to request a special pickup before 4pm on Friday, April 12th. Items to be picked up must be brought to the curb prior to pickup. City crews cannot enter homes to retrieve items.
Perry Recycles! will also be open that day over at the Armory. They'll have a special schedule of 8am - 11:30am because of Citywide Cleanup, so be sure to take your recyclables over there. We're looking forward to another great cleanup day this year. Let's make Perry beautiful!

Let's try this again! We're asking citizens to conserve water between 11am and 3pm while the water plant is offline for the new generator to be wired in. The electrical contractor got most of the work done yesterday, so we don't think it will take the full four hours, but we're setting that window just to be safe. Thank you!
The electrical contractor has cancelled the generator connection at the water plant for today. It will be rescheduled for tomorrow, and we will post the time frame as soon as it has been decided. Please continue to use water as you normally would.
We're asking citizens to conserve water between 11am and 3pm. During that time, the water plant will be offline while the new generator is connected to ensure that the water plant stays powered even during an outage. We've prepared for this by filling the water towers to the brim, but we're asking citizens to conserve a little just to be safe. Thank you!

We are currently working a significant waterline break on 11th St between Brookwood Dr and Parklane Dr. Residents in the area may experience low or no water pressure. The water crew is working to repair the line as quickly as possible.
We are proud to have our wonderful downtown be part of the Mid South Endurance Festival again this year! They'll be stopping in this Saturday, March 16th for a brief respite on their grueling trek across Oklahoma's dirt roads. Be on the lookout for both bike riders and runners in the area on that day.

We are cancelling recycling for this weekend, February 24th, for what is arguably a very good problem. The participating citizens have been so good at recycling that we are overflowing with recyclable items, but we have been unable to get one of the collection companies to do a pickup for us. Perry Recycles will resume normal operations in March. Thank you for your recycling efforts and we look forward to seeing you then!

It was a long week, but water storage levels are looking great and the issue has been resolved. Thank you so much to the citizens for their huge conservation efforts, and to the city employees for their tireless work in getting all the various problems sorted out and fixed. It was truly a team effort and we can't say thank you enough to everyone!
