The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is partnering with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of radon exposure and to encourage residents to take steps to protect their homes and families. Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible, odorless, and tasteless gas that forms from the natural breakdown of uranium in the soil. While it disperses harmlessly outdoors, radon can accumulate indoors—sometimes reaching dangerous levels. Long-term exposure to elevated radon levels is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
To help Oklahomans take action, DEQ is offering free radon test kits. Typically, these kits cost between $20 and $40 when purchased online or in stores. Testing your home is simple, and it’s the only way to know your radon level.
For more information or to request a free test kit, visit DEQ Offering Free Radon Test Kits to Oklahoma Residents
